Combining art and augmented reality, Luzidlab’s challenge

As part of the AR-DE circuit programme, during the first weekend of June, Luzidlab in collaboration with Poblenou Urban District, has organised a workshop on “Digital Canvas”, an Augmented Reality platform for digital and virtual artistic expression in urban places, created by Mike van der Noordt, CXO and co-founder of Luzidlab. The workshop will take place this Friday 3 June from 16h to 19h at the Palo Alto Foundation.
Digital Canvas allows artists to place their art around the city using a combination of GPS and Augmented Reality for members of the public to enjoy while roaming the city.
The first version of Digital Canvas is live, and through workshops like this, Luzidlab wants to build a community of artists, designers, musicians and other creatives for them to explore a new and exciting way to present their art in this new reality called the metaverse. The metaverse is a subject of excitement and controversy at the same time, just as NFT’s is, but we believe we as creative minds, can shape the future in a positive and sustainable way using these new technologies.
The first part of the workshop will be a short introduction to Augmented Reality, then , Mike will tell about the origins of Digital Canvas. Where it all started, the current state and where it is heading, plus some technical background of the tools used to develop Digital Canvas.
After this we will explore some successful (and maybe less successful 😉 Augmented Reality art projects, and open the discussion about how Augmented Reality can complement more traditional ways of displaying and presenting art.
The last, and main part of the workshop will be all about methods of converting existing pieces to, or creating new artworks for this new and rapidly growing medium. After the talk there is time for a Q&A, a cold beverage and a conversation about how we can help each other survive in this barely explored wilderness of crazy technology.

In the next edition of AR-DE in October, the artists participating in the workshop will have the opportunity to present their projects.
