Twentytú Hostel Barcelona, the most sustainable hostel in the Creative District

The first hostel in the world to obtain the BIOSPHERE RESPONSIBLE TOURISM certification, Twentytú Hostel Barcelona is committed to the environment, sustainability and social inclusion on a daily basis. Always relying on technological innovation, the hostel has implemented a multitude of measures to make efficient use of resources and limit its carbon footprint.

ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIONS

Among others, Twentytú Hostel Barcelona has incorporated in its spaces measures focused on innovation and technology:

  • Air conditioning and water heating system for DHW: it comes from the Districlima system, which uses the energy released by the steam from the Sant Adrià incinerator a few kilometers away from the hostel.
  • Room automation: at check-in, all indoor facilities are activated and then, at check-out, deactivated until the next guest arrives.
  • Timer system: all rooms include a timer in the shower and bathroom faucet, saving between 40% and 60% of water.
  • LED lighting: allows for more efficient use of energy. The corridors are equipped with a presence detector, and the lights turn off automatically.
  • Ventilated façade: Air conditioning is optimized and glass is incorporated to filter light and prevent overheating in the rooms.

SOCIAL ACTIONS

Twentytú Hostel, in addition to being focused on innovation and technology, has put its focus on the social sphere, trying to promote initiatives that can benefit the immediate environment and people.

  • Contribution of 1€, by the hostel, for each double room reservation received. These donations are distributed quarterly between Fundació IReS, Make a wish and the Sant Joan de Déu Children’s Hospital, which focus on children.
  • Collaboration with third sector companies that work on integration: 70% of the furniture is purchased from L’Estoc, whose objective is to improve and dignify the situation of people with intellectual disabilities and development through work; contracting of graphics and merchandising to Icaria Gráficas; recently, two people have been hired in collaboration with the Fundació Catalana Síndrome de Down, and one person through the social training entity Femarec, of the La Caixa Foundation.
  • Collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare of the Barcelona City Council in the reception of refugee families, political exiles and those with social problems, to whom they offer accommodation and a welcoming and familiar stay.
  • Collaboration with Ojos del Mundo, a non-profit foundation that prevents and fights avoidable blindness among the populations of the world, offering free accommodation to volunteer doctors who come to Barcelona to learn the surgical practices that will later be applied to people with vision deficiency in Africa.
